Rabbit, Saved From Brockton Streets, Looking For Home

BROCKTON (WBZ-AM) -- After being rescued from a Brockton street, a sweet and lovable Himalayan rabbit is getting tons of TLC and looking for a new home.

Maryanne Coughlin, adoption specialist at the Animal Protection Center of Southeastern Massachusetts, said the bunny--whose name is Simpson--was crying for human contact when he was brought in.

A Good Samaritan picked Simpson up after the bunny ran out in front of his car.

"He got out of the car, realized that it wasn't a wild rabbit, and that his ear was almost hanging off of his head," Coughlin said. "So he packed him up in a box and he brought him to us."

He was brought to the shelter with fleas and a terrible ear mite infection--but Coughlin has been nursing him back to health, and she said his prognosis is pretty good.

Without that Good Samaritan's intervention, Coughlin believes Simpson would have died.

Coughlin believes someone may have dumped the friendly rabbit. He was found by a dump site, so he may have just been thrown out.

"We can't say for sure," she said. "He's a Himalayan mix, which usually means they come from a breeding situation ... they're not really common. He must have been owned at some point."

She loves Simpson and has formed a strong bond with him. He will likely be available for adoption some time next week.

"He's great, I love him," Coughlin said. "He's my good boy ... I think anybody who adopts him is going to have a really great rabbit."

Coughlin said many rabbits can be litter box trained.

"You can keep them inside in your house and they won't make a mess," she said.
