Uber Hack Exposes Personal Information Of 57 Million People

Uber joins a growing list of major companies who have become victims of hackers. In October of 2016 hackers broke into the ride-sharing company's computer system and stole personal information of 57 million people.

The names, email addresses, and phone numbers of 50 million customers and 7 million drivers was downloaded from their servers. According to Bloomberg,  Social Security numbers, credit card details, and trip location info were not taken, but 600,000 U.S. driver’s license numbers were stolen.

Chief Security Officer Joe Sullivan was let go as a result of the breach. Instead of alerting authorities, which they had a legal obligation to do, the company paid the hackers $100,000 to delete the data.
